Haskins Furniture trades as Haskins Furniture Shepton Mallet Ltd and is a wholly owned subsidery of J H Haskins & Son, retailing upholstery, dining cabinet, cane, lighting and interiors. It is Somerset’s largest furniture store, is based within Haskins Retail Centre and has nearly 70,000sq ft of showroom and warehousing space in Shepton Mallet.

We have substantial furniture, upholstery and bed showrooms on both the ground and first floors. Other separate in-store businesses include Edinburgh Woollen Mill, Pavers Shoes, The Carpet Shop, Hammonds Bedrooms, Shepton Mallet Brasserie Restaurant, and many others. The massive 100,000sq ft plus retail centre is in the heart of this historic UK town.

Haskins Furniture in Shepton Mallet dates back to the 1930s and grew rapidly – in particular through the 1960s and ‘70s, when the famous tag line emblazoned across all its vehicles was “The largest furnishers in the West”.

Iconic West Country Name

Furnishing tens of thousands of homes throughout the country, Haskins Furniture is an iconic West Country name.

N.B Haskins Furniture is an independent furniture store trading in Shepton Mallet and has no connection to Haskins Garden Centres.

1980

Probably the UK’s largest furniture store in 1980

At one point, it was the possibly UK’s largest furniture store, with over 100,000sq ft of furniture and a turnover in 1980 of seven million pounds per annum. In today’s money, that equates to twenty five mllion! Haskins through the 80s & 90s had stores in Bristol, Yeovil, Salisbury and a bed store near Southampton. Now it operates only from Shepton Mallet.

Seven members of our staff are still with the business today, including the MD, and have worked with the company continually since 1980.

£200,000 refurbishment in 2008! Our newly refurbished bedroom department really has to be seen to be believed. It includes many multi-bed and mattress galleries from all of your favourite brands, including Tempur, Sleepeezee, Relyon, Harrison, Vi-Spring, Health Beds, Myers, Mammoth, and many others. You’re spoilt for choice when you visit our amazing 10,000 sq ft bedroom department!

2009

Haskins headquarters

The headquarters and main store is based in Shepton Mallet and Haskins Furniture has traded from its present 100,000sq ft site since 1969! For many years, it also had a branch at the Gardiners building in Bristol, as a tenant to Gardiner Sons & Co. This ceased in March 2009. Haskins Furniture has no connection with Gardiner Haskins in Bristol.

Haskins Furniture trades as Haskins Furniture Shepton Mallet Ltd. It is a totally independent furniture, upholstery and bed retailer, and is still Somerset’s largest furniture store, based within Haskins Retail Centre with nearly 58,000 sq ft of showroom and warehousing space in Shepton Mallet.
