Five Generations of Bed Makers
The Smeaton family have been making beds for over 125 years. The tradition of bed making was first started by Henry Smeaton, who made palliasse mattresses filled with straw, under the archers of a bridge in Masborough, Rotherham.
Healthbeds’ mattress fabrics are specially selected for their advanced properties and include knitted stretch fabrics with Temperature Control, Moisture retention, anti-dust mite protection, and allergy reduction. Healthbeds’ mattresses are designed with no roll-off, reinforced edge supports to ensure total comfort and provide extra sleeping area. They also improve upon the flow of air and moisture through the mattress allowing the whole bed to breathe.
Our Base foundations are a major part of their beds. Healthbeds only use Scandinavian pine which is slow grown and both FSC sustainable and traceable. They still traditionally screw, glue, staple and nail their bases for extra durability and depending on your models selection they now have smooth drawer runners.
Healthbeds are committed to improving upon their eco-credentials where-ever possible and have to date implemented solar-panels on their factory and offices, and maintain their very own 24 acre site of ancient woodland. All of the natural blended fibres that they use are sourced in Yorkshire so that they may reduce upon the impact of 02 emissions caused by transportation. It is their goal to achieve Zero to landfill across the entire Healthbed range in the not too distant future.
Healthbed's reputation has been built on a long-standing, unswerving commitment to quality, exacting standards, and traditional craftsmanship. They are a member of the Guild of Master Craftsmen and they value the traditional skills that have been passed down from generation to generation, which ensure that Healthbeds are not only traditionally made, but expertly built. They use only the finest materials, with each bed being individually produced and tested at every stage of production to ensure the highest standards are achieved in their state of the art, purpose built factory in Rotherham.
